Bradford, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team hosted Penn State-Behrend on Tuesday afternoon at Rathburn Family Field. The Panthers struggled to contain the high-powered Lions' offense and fell 12-0 in the contest.
The Panthers were able to contain the Penn State-Behrend attack for the opening quarter of an hour, as Josie Orinko made a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless. In the 17th minute, the Lions were able to score on a set play to open the scoring, and then 3 minutes later, they went on a fast break and doubled their lead. After another save by Orinko, the Lions tacked on a 3rd goal in the 23rd and their 4th in the 28th. The Panthers took the next shot on goal as Tessa Duchi had a long-distance effort that missed the target, but then the visitors went back on the attack. Orinko made one more save in the 42nd, and just as the Panthers thought they would head to the break with a 4-goal deficit, the Lions were able to add one more tally with 53 seconds left in the half.
Madelyn Seeley replaced Orinko in the goal to start the 2nd half, but struggled to find her footing, as the visitors scored two goals in the first 5 minutes of the half. She was able to make two saves, but was replaced by Orinko after allowing a third goal in the 52nd. The Panthers used an effective offside trap and one Orinko save to keep the deficit at 8 for the next 10 minutes, but the Lions were able to figure out the defense and score 3 more goals in a 6-minute span to go ahead 11-0 with 20 mintues remaining. The visitors added one final goal in the 82nd before the Panthers were able to muster three of the game's final four shots. Abigail Bateman had a half-volley effort that missed the net wide, while Ellie Yeager had one shot blocked and another slide wide of the target in the final three minutes.
Josie Orinko made 10 saves in the game, while Madelyn Seeley added 2 in 9 minutes of action. The Panthers tallied 4 shots in the game. Ellie Yeager took two of them, while Tessa Duchi and Abigail Bateman each had one.
The loss drops the Panthers to 1-9 on the season with a 0-5 mark in AMCC play. They will be back in action on Saturday, when they host Carlow on Senior Day. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.
