Panthers Win One, Drop Two at AMCC Duals

Alfred, NY -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team competed in three matches at the AMCC Duals on Saturday, hosted by Alfred State. The Panthers lost two of the matches, falling to Penn College 37-13 and Alfred State 34-22, but defeated Penn State Altoona 53-0.

Match 1 - Penn College 37 - Pitt-Bradford 13

The day began with a tough matchup against Penn College. The Panthers dropped the match 37-13 but were able to pick up three individual victories. At 149, Nikolas Fegert won by an 8-1 decision to get the Panthers on the board. A few bouts later, D.J. Slovick added four more points, winning by a 19-7 major decision at 174. To close the match, Cameron Carter-Green won the heavyweight matchup, defeating the 4th ranked heavyweight in the region with a pin. He won his match in 3:16.

Match 2 - Pitt-Bradford 53 - Penn State-Altoona 0

In their second match of the day, Pitt-Bradford set a program record for points in a dual, winning 53-0. While the majority of the victories were due to forfeits, the Panthers won both contested matches, picking up 11 of 12 maximum points. Peyton Mitchell won his bout at 165 with a 15-0 tech fall victory to earn 5 points. Slovick wrestled in the other match, pinning his opponent in 49 seconds at 184.

Match 3 - Alfred State 34 - Pitt-Bradford 22

To close the day, the Panthers took on the hosts, Alfred State. The teams swapped victories early, but a pair of late Pitt-Bradford forfeits put the match out of reach as they fell 34-22. After dropping the opening bout, Pitt-Bradford jumped into the lead with a victory at 133. Mike Worsen pinned his opponent at 4:52, giving the Panthers a 6-5 lead. The Pioneers retook the lead with a pin at 141, but Fegert was able to trim it to 1 point with a 13-4 major decision victory at 149. 

The Panthers dropped two matches before Slovick got them back on the board with his third win of the day. The senior earned his 99th career win with a pin at 2:09 in the 174 lb weight class. Alfred State secured the win with two forfeits, but Carter-Green had the last word, closing the match with his second pin of the day. He won his match in 2:43.

 

Pitt-Bradford finishes AMCC competition with a 1-3 record, in 4th place. They are now 8-5 in dual matches this season. The Panthers will be back in action on Saturday, January 17th, as they will face Slippery Rock in a team exhibition match at 5:00 p.m. It is the Panthers' final home match of the season, and the team will recognize D.J. Slovick, Ray Worse,n and Cameron Carter-Green for Senior Day.
