Fegert Takes 3rd at RIT Invitational, Panthers Finish 12th

Rochester, NY -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team wrapped up the fall portion of their schedule Saturday, as it competed in the RIT Invitational. The Panthers finished 12th with a team score of 35 points. Nikolas Fegert had the best finish for the Panthers, taking 3rd place at 149.

Fegert had a dominant day, going 6-1 in the 149 lb weight class to pick up a 3rd place finish. After an opening bye, he moved into the quarterfinal with back-to-back wins by decision. He defeated his first opponent 11-5, before winning the next 10-7. Fegert fell 4-2 in the quarter final, but was able to battle back with another win by a 9-3 decision in the consolation bracket. He won his next match 11-0 for a major decision, and then picked up two wins by medical forfeit in the Consolation semifinal and 3rd place match. He totaled 18.5 points on the day. 

Mike Worsen failed to place at 133, but picked up 7.5 team points. He beat the buzzer to pin his opening opponent with 9 seconds left, but then fell to the consolation bracket after being pinned in the 2nd round. He came right back with an 18-3 tech fall win and another pin in 1:13, before falling by pin in the 4th round.

Two other Panthers earned team points at the invitational. At 165, Peyton Mitchell dropped his opening bout, but pinned his next two opponents. He finished the first in 4:01, and then needed just 36 seconds to win his second. At 174, D.J. Slovick won two matches to tally 4 points. He also dropped his opening match, but then won by pin at 4:05 and by an 18-6 major decision.

The Panthers be off for the next month for final exams and semester break. They will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 10th as they will battle for the team conference championships at the AMCC Duals. The event will be hosted by Alfred State.
