Scranton, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team took home a 3rd place finish at the Electric City Duals on Sunday. The Panthers won 3 of 4, defeating Kean, Bergen, and Keystone, while falling to NJCU.
Match 1 - UPB 42 - Kean 13
The Panthers started their day with a dominant 42-13 win over Kean. They picked up 12 quick points at the start, as Cade Stern and Mike Worsen won their bouts by pin at 1:40 and 1:46, respectively. After losing at 141, the Panthers added 18 more points when Fegert pinned at 29 seconds at 149, Raymond Worsen won by pin at 5:41, and Mamady Traore won by Forfeit at 165. D.J. Slovick and Gavin Thompson finished the match with two more pins for the Panthers. Slovick finished in 1:35, while Thompson was slightly quicker at 1:28.
Match 2 - UPB 29 - Bergen 18
In match two, the Panthers were once again able to build an early lead, picking up the maximum points from the first four classes. Stern and Elias Salloum each won by forfeit, while Mike Worsen won by pin at 1:02 and Fegert in 4:24. Bergen made a slight comeback, trimming the lead to 13 through the middle classes, but Slovick secured the victory with a 19-3 technical fall win at 184.
Match 3 - UPB 48 - Keystone 11
Pitt-Bradford secured its third win of the day early against Keystone, as Stern, Salloum, Ray Worsen, and Traore all won by forfeit, while Mike Worsen (0:51) and Fegert (1:09) pinned their opponents to build a 36-6 lead. D.J. Slovick won his 3rd match of the day with a pin at 1:30, while Pavitar Singh won his first dual meet bout, pinning his opponent in 2:15 at 285.
Match 4 - UPB 6 - NJCU 46
Unfortunately for the Panthers, they finished the day with a match-up against a tough NJCU squad. The Panthers failed to win a contested bout, picking up their only points in a forfeit win by Braxton Caldwell at 197. Nik Fegert had the tightest bout of the match, falling 2-1 in sudden victory overtime at 149.
Following the third-place finish, the Panthers are now 6-2 in dual matches this season. They will be back in action at home on Tuesday, Nov. 18th, when they host Penn State-Behrend in KOA Arena. The action is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
