Shorthanded Panthers Drop AMCC Opener

Shorthanded Panthers Drop AMCC Opener

Pittsburgh, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team opened its AMCC schedule on Saturday with a weekend matchup at La Roche. The Panthers fell behind early, and then after being reduced to 10 men, could not keep up with the hosts and ultimately fell 3-0.

The hosts controlled possession early and put the first effort on target as Christopher House made a save in the first 3 minutes. They continued to press after the shot and eventually opened the scoring with a goal in the 7th minute. After the restart, the Panthers moved into the offensive zone, where Kyle Carlsen found room for a shot, but sent his effort high over the target. The comeback became more difficult in the 18th minute. Tyler Levely fouled a Redhawk and was deemed to have stopped an obvious goal-scoring opportunity. He received a red card for the foul, and the Panthers were reduced to 10 players on the field.

La Roche maintained possession after the card, forcing House into another save. In the 29th minute, an attacker beat the Panthers to the endline, and his cross was deflected into the goal, doubling the deficit. The hosts' pressure continued, and then, with just 2 minutes left until the break, added a third goal to their lead.

In the second half, the hosts continued to use their man-advantage, but were not able to add to their score. House made 3 more saves in the Panther net. The Panthers tallied one more shot, as Bailee Verdill advanced into the final third in the 81st minute, but could not find the target as his shot missed high.

In the loss, Christopher House finished with 6 saves. The Panthers mustered a shot each from Kyle Carlsen and Bailee Verdill, but both efforts missed the target.

The Panthers fall to 4-5-1 on the season. They will be back in action on Tuesday, when they host Alfred State at Rathburn Family Field. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
