Buffalo, NY -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swim team completed the third day of competition at the SUNYAC Swimming Championships in Buffalo on Friday night. The Panthers had two swimmers qualify for finals, but remained in 9th with 79 points despite closing the gap to 8th place by 31 points.
All 5 Panther swimmers competed in preliminary rounds across 4 events, while 2 qualified for the finals session. The Panthers also fielded a team in the 400-yard medley relay.
Isabella Cercone had the best finish of the day for Pitt-Bradford. Swimming in the 100-yard breaststroke second heat, she finished 11th overall with a time of 1:13.14. Avery Yard also competed in the preliminary round, finishing 22nd in 1:30.11.
Madison Foote also qualified for finals in the 400-yard individual medley. She swam the preliminary race in 6:01.95 to make the finals, and then cut over 8 seconds off her time at 5:53.39. She finished 14th.
The two remaining Pitt-Bradford Swimmers just missed out on finals qualification. In the 100-yard backstroke, Carly Evers finished with a time of 1:09.45, which put her in 18th place, just 1.09 seconds behind the final qualifier. Emma Slocum also finished 18th in the 200-yard freestyle. She posted a time of 2:17.72.
The night came to a close with the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Evers, Cercone, Foote, and Slocum finished in 8th place with a time of 4:39.73, more than 14 seconds ahead of their seed time. Evers swam the backstroke leg in 1:08.72, and Cercone followed in the breaststroke at 1:14.53. Foote finished the butterfly in 1:16.51, while Slocum finished the race with a 59.97-second freestyle leg.
Pitt-Bradford has one final day of competition at the championship meet tomorrow. The following Panthers will be competing.
