Panthers Win 4 Events, Dropped By Roberts Wesleyan

Bradford, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swimming team opened up the 2nd half of its season on Saturday with a home dual meet against Roberts Wesleyan. The Panthers were able to pick up 4 individual wins, but could not accumulate enough points to keep up with the Redhawks, losing the meet 146-64.

Pitt-Bradford won 4 individual events, and also competed well in the two relays, finishing within a second of the team ahead of them in both races.

Isabella Cercone led the Panthers with victories in both of her individual events. In the 50-yard breaststroke, she won with a time of 33.07 seconds, 2.3 seconds ahead of the runner-up. She repeated the feat in the 100-yard breaststroke, as her time of 1:14.13 was 3.67 seconds ahead of the competition.

Carly Evers was able to win one event and finish as runner-up in another. She won the 100-yard backstroke by 1.06 seconds, posting a time of 1:09.27. She just missed out on a second victory, as she was outtouched at the wall in the 50-yard freestyle. Her time of 27.59 seconds was just .39 seconds behind the winner.

The other Panther win came in the first individual event of the day, the 1650-yard freestyle. Emma Slocum won the mile in dominant fashion. Her time of 23:00.38 seconds was 1:54.03 ahead of the competition. She also added a pair of 3rd place finishes. In the 100-yard backstroke, she finished in 1:20.39, while she also posted a 33.58-second time in the 50-yard butterfly.

Madison Foote finished the day with 10 individual points, as she had one second-place and two third-place finishes. She was runner-up in the multidisciplinary 200-yard individual medley. She completed the race in 3:00.41. Her two third-place finishes came in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events. She finished the 200 in 2:37.16 and the 100 in 1:13.71.

To bookend the meet, the Panthers had two strong performances in the relays, but were just beaten in each. In the medley relay, the team of Evers, Avery Yard, Cercone, and Foote took 2nd, finishing with a time of 1:59.69. They were .79 seconds behind the winning Roberts Wesleyan team. The freestyle relay was even closer. Cercone, Slocum Yard, and Evers posted a time of 1:56.49 seconds, finishing only 0.18 seconds after the Redhawks.

The loss drops the Panthers to 0-6 in dual meets this season. They will return to action on Saturday, January 24th at Alfred University.
