Fredonia, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's and women's swimming teams were back in action at Fredonia State's Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday, competing in preliminary and final rounds. The Panthers maintained their positions of 5th and 7th through 26 events. The men are 5th and have accumulated 338 team points, while the women are in 7th with 35.
The Panthers had 7 men and 2 women qualify for individual races, while also fielding a pair of relays for the men.
Three Pitt-Bradford swimmers qualified for finals in the multidisciplinary 400-yard individual medley. Conan Young led the way for the Panthers with a runner-up finish in the event. He completed the race in 4:24.49 seconds. Duncan Young also made the top heat, finishing 6th with a time of 4:32.75. Peyton Haight qualified for heat two, finishing 10th overall in 4:58.98.
Camden Tetenov was the only Panther to qualify in an event on his own, swimming in the 200-yard freestyle. Tetenov finished 24th with a time of 2:09.37.
Just like in the 400-yard IM, three separate Panthers qualified for the 100-yard breaststroke. Eric Reynolds had the best Panther finish, taking 11th with a time of 1:05.60. Greg Tyler also swam in heat two, finishing 16th in 1:16.30. Evan Whitmore swam in heat three and took 18th with a time of 1:19.59.
Pitt-Bradford fielded a pair of relays on day two, both competing in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Duncan Young, Reynolds, Conan Young, and Tyler finished 11th with a time of 1:48.23. The Panthers' second team, consisting of Haight, Whitmore, Tetenov, and Luke Kerr, finished 15th in 2:14.03.
The women's team had a pair of swimmers qualify for the final round. Avery yard swam in the 100-yard breaststroke and finished 12th with a time of 1:27.52. Carly Evers swam in the 100-yard backstroke, taking 14th with a time of 1:08.24.
The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow, competing in one more day at the Blue Devil Invitational. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. with the finals at 5:00 p.m.
