Bradford, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swimming team was back in action on Saturday, hosting Jamestown Community College in a dual meet. Isabella Cercone won three separate events for Pitt-Bradford, but the team ultimately fell 99-73.
Cercone's first win of the day came in the meet's shortest event, the 50-yard freestyle. Cercone won the sprint by more than a second, finishing in 26.38 seconds, 1.14 seconds ahead of teammate Carly Evers. She followed that up with another win, this time in the 100-yard freestyle. She finished in under a minute, posting a time of 59.58 seconds. Cercone closed the meet with a win in her signature event, the 100-yard breaststroke. She finished in 1:15.47 seconds to bring her point total for the meet to 27.
Two other Panthers also secured event wins in the meet. Emma Slocum started the meet off with a bang, breezing to a win in the 1000-yard freestyle. The Junior finished the distance race in 13:35.14, besting her competitor by more than 20 seconds. She also added a 2nd place finish in the 500. Madison Foote won the 100-yard butterfly, charging down the last length to win by .87 seconds. She posted a time of 1:19.50.
The Panthers nearly pulled off a last leg comeback in the 200-yard freestyle. The team of Slocum, Avery Yard, Foote, and Evers finished in 2:03.74, .82 seconds behind the winners. In the anchor leg, Evers swam a 27.82 split, cutting a second and a half off the lead.
The Panthers are now 0-2 on the season. They will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 1, with an away dual meet at Penn State-Behrend.
