Panthers Unable to Hold Down Highlanders, Fall 6-0

Bradford, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team was back in action at Rathburn Family Field on Tuesday night, hosting Houghton. The Panthers limited the Highlanders early, but were unable to keep up with the visitors after the hour mark, ultimately falling 6-0.

The visitors went on the offensive to begin the game, but Josie Orinko was able to keep the Panthers level through the first 15 minutes of play, making three early saves. Mya King had the Panthers' first opportunity of the game, sending a shot wide of the net in the 15th minute. The Highlanders broke through the Panther defense in the 19th minute, taking advantage of a failed clearance attempt to open the scoring. Neither team carved out a chance for the next 10 minutes until King put the Panthers' first shot on goal, hitting the middle of the target from 25 yards away. Houghton grabbed the momentum right back, doubling their advantage with a 37th-minute goal.

The Panthers seemed refreshed after the halftime break, as they kept Houghton from increasing their advantage for the first quarter of an hour. In the 63rd, Houghton added a third goal on a headed corner kick, and then opened the floodgates, scoring three more times before the 15-minute mark. In the final minutes, the Panthers had more control of the game, as they took three more shots, but were only able to put one of them on target.

Josie Orinko played all 90 minutes in the Panthers' goal and made 6 saves in the loss. Pitt-Bradford tallied 6 shots in the game, led by Mya King, who took 3 shots with 2 on goal. Gianna Gomez had two shots, and Chloe Sander added one more, all missing the target.

The loss drops Pitt-Bradford to 1-2 on the season. They will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 13th, when they host Thiel. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Rathburn Family Field.
