Erie, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team began conference play with the first day of competition at the first AMCC Round Robin at Eastland Bowl in Erie on Saturday. The Panthers finished the day 0-3, but had the 6th highest pinfall in their 3 Baker matches.
The Panthers began their day with a matchup against the defending AMCC champions, Saint Vincent. They took an early lead on the Bearcats, winning game one 187-176 and game two 139-129. St Vincent jumped ahead with a pair of dominant games, as the Panthers dropped game 3 162-209 and 132-192. The Panthers showed some fight in game 5, posting their best score of the day in a 190-147 win, but dropped the overall match 810-853.
In their second game, the Panthers faced a buzzsaw in Hilbert. Pitt-Bradford posted its best score of the day at 812, but could not keep pace with the Hawks, who finished at 948. The Panthers lost game one 153-208 and game two 156-170. They nearly beat the Hawks in game 3, falling 152-158, and then dropped game four 170-222. The Panthers once again finished strong, posting their best score of the match in game five, but still fell 181-190.
After a bye in the third match, the Panthers took on Penn State-Behrend to close the day. The Panthers lost three tight games to start the match, trailing by 26 pins heading into the fourth game. They won game four 180-168 to head to the deciding fifth game, trailing by 14. Unfortunately, they could not complete the comeback, dropping game 5 157-179 and the match 773-809.
The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow with three more Baker matches against AMCC competition. They will take on Alvernia, William Smith, and Pitt-Greensburg, looking to pick up their first win of the year. Action begins at 9:00 a.m.
