Niagara, NY -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team finished its trip to Niagara for the Brunswick Invitational. The Panthers bowled in 5 Baker Bowling matches, with the first four decided by total pinfall, and the final placement match in a best-of-7-games format. The Panthers dropped all five matches, finishing the event in 10th.
The Panthers opened the day with a match against Bryant. They won the first game 159-145, but lost the next four. The final score was 883-740 in favor of the bulldogs.
They faced off with the hosts, Niagara, in the next matchup, losing all five games in the match. The Panthers had their best score in game 3, where they fell 190-172. The final tally was 928-745.
In their third match of the day, the Panthers rolled against fellow AMCC member Hilbert. The Panthers won the first game 137-132, but fell behind after dropping the next two games 163-133 and 181-143. They won game four 159-144 to cut into the lead, but lost the closing match 191-102 to drop the match 811-674.
To close out pool play, the Panthers took on Mount St. Mary's. The Panthers struggled to keep pace with the Division 1 squad, which posted an average of 209 pins over the five matches. The Panthers were able to post their best score of the day in the first game, falling 226-184, but ultimately fell 1045-733.
To decide its final placement, the Panthers took on D'Youville. The Panthers dropped the opener 183-174, but were able to tie up the match with a 148-140 win in game two. They fell behind after losing 193-109 in game two and then lost game four 168-154. Needing a win to extend the match, the Panthers posted their second-best score of the match, but fell 182-167 to lose the match 4 games to 1.
The Panthers will be back in action next weekend, as they will head to the Pittsburgh area for a final tune-up before the first AMCC Round Robin of the season. They will play in Saint Vincent's Brother Lacy Tournament on Saturday, and then the Unicorn Invitational in Pittsburgh on Sunday.
