Erie, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team finished its trip to Erie for the Grapevine Invitational on Sunday, finishing the event in 6th place.
The Panthers dropped their first four Baker matches before falling to Hilbert in the final placement round.
Pitt-Bradford began its day with a match against D'Youville. The Panthers fell behind the Saints early, dropping the first two games 127-148 and 162-173. Trailing by 32, the Panthes cut into the lead over the next two matches. They won the third 166-159 and the fourth 198-178, which cut the deficit down to 5 heading into the final game. Unfortunately, the Panthers were not able to maintain momentum, falling 119-171 in the 5th, putting the finals core a 772-829.
In their second match, the Panthers took on the hosts, Penn State-Behrend. The Panthers dropped the first two games 145-153 and 142-186, but were able to win game three 160-148. After falling in game 4, 148-154, they closed strong, winning the final game 144-133. Unfortunately, it was not enough to make up the deficit, and they fell 739-774.
The Panthers took on Hilbert in game three. They lost four of the five games of the match. Pitt-Bradford dropped the first two 162-187 and 104-133, but then came back with a 165-159 win in game three. They lost the fourth 151-168, and were unable to keep up with the Hawks in the 5th, falling 139-237. The final tally for the match was 721-884 in favor of Hilbert.
Pitt-Bradford took on Daemen in the final round robin matchup. They fell behind once again, dropping the first four games by a combined 185 pins. They had a strong finish, however, winning the fifth game 185-146 to cut the final margin to 722-866.
In the placement round, the Panthers had a rematch with Hilbert. The Panthers showed some fatigue in their 5th match of the day, and could not keep pace with the Hawks, who jumped out to a huge lead after winning the first two sets 203-123 and 253-137. The Panthers averaged 146.3 pins per game to close the match, but the deficit was far too great, ultimately losing the match 699-927.
The Panthers will have the next three weeks off before returning to action on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Niagara Fall Open.
