Panthers Start Season at Grapevine Invite, Lose 5

Erie, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team kicked off its 2025-26 campaign on Saturday at Penn State-Behrend's Grapevine Invite. The Panthers bowled in 5 traditional matches, losing all of them.

Pitt-Bradford began its day with a matchup against the hosts, Penn State-Behrend. They fell 874-743 in the match. Freshman Sara Paryz led the team with a 177 in her first collegiate action. Natalie Burrows bowled a 153, while Jasmine Smith finished at 142. Erin Wales bowled leadoff with a 139, and Katharine Cogdill bowled a 132.

The Panthers' second match was against Hilbert, and they fell 871-741. Wales had the high score with a 171, while Paryz finished at 164. Cogdill and Burrows were one pin apart at 143 and 142, while Smith closed the scoring at 121.

In the third match, the Panthers had their best scoring output of the day, but it was against the defending AMCC champions, Saint Vincent, who won the match 1061-843. Paryz posted the Panthers' high score of the day with a 187, while Wales was just behind her at 181. Burrows had her best game of the day with a 175, while Cogdill bowled a 171.

Pitt-Bradford took on Division II D'Youville in match 4 and fell 836-756. Cogdill had the high game for the Panthers with a 170, while Paryz was just behind her at 169. Burrows rolled a 143, while Wales finished at 140, and Smith bowled a 134.

The Panthers showed fatigue in match 5, falling to Daemen  843-675. Cogdill led the Panthers again with a 161, while Wales was second at 150. Smith bowled a 129, and Paryz finished at 128. 

For the day, Sara Paryz led the Panthers with an average of 165.0. She is in 13th place for the event. Erin Wales, Katherine Codgill, and Natalie Burrows all had top 20 averages as they finished in 17th, 18th, and 19th. Wales averaged a 156.2, Codgill a 155.4, and Burrows a 144.0. Jasmine Smith was 21st with an average of 131.0

The Panthers have one more day in Erie as they will be back in action at Eastland Bowl for the second day of the invitational. They will bowl in 5 Baker matches.
