Bradford, Pa. -- In their final tune-up before the AMCC Championship Tournament, the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team took two of three matches from Medaille.
Playing with a similar oil pattern to the one they will face next week in the Baker format, the Panthers won the first two games of the match before falling in the third.
The Panthers won the opening match 913-819. They fell behind early, losing the first game 198-189, but tied the match in games and pinfall with a 149-140 win in the second. Medaille took the third game 188-177, but Pitt-Bradford scored a massive win in the fourth game, beating the Mavericks 240-122. This margin of victory gave the Panthers the match despite losing game 5 171-158.
Both teams struggled in the second match, as the Panthers were again victorious, winning 804-790. The Panthers jumped ahead with three straight wins to start the match. They won the first 201-162, the second 162-160, and the third 120-103. They lost the final two games by a cumulative score of 365-321 but had a large enough lead to hold off the Maverick charge.
In the final match of the day, the Panthers started off strong with a 187-148 win in game one but saw the Mavericks take control and win the last four games. The Panthers posted a respectable score of 836 pins, but the Mavericks turned it on with an impressive pinfall of 1010 to salvage a win in the dual match.
Sarah Newland averaged 18.3 pins per frame in the two victories for the Panthers. Jordyn Graham had a 16.6 pin per frame average.
The Panthers secured the 3rd seed in the AMCC Championship Tournament after posting an 11-5 record in the AMCC Round Robins. They will begin play in the tournament on Friday, March 25th, in the first round against 4th seeded Penn State-Behrend.
