Panthers finish 7th at Daemen College Classic

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team picked up two wins on the second day of the Daemen College Classic to finish the event in 7th place.

Bowling in the Baker Format, the Panthers got off to a rough start, dropping the opening match 849-753 to Mercyhurst. The Panthers won the first game 144-141 but fell behind as the Lakers took game two 158-133. Mercyhurst was able to expand their lead over the final 3 games of the match to earn the victory.

Match two saw the Panthers get into the win column with an 813-754 victory over Penn State-Behrend. Pitt-Bradford jumped out to a commanding lead after winning the first three games of the match. Behrend battled back to win the 4th game, but the Panthers finished strong with a 177-150 win in the 5th to secure the victory.

The Panthers fell in their next two matches to Roberts Wesleyan and Medaille. They fell behind early as Roberts Wesleyan posted an impressive score of 220 in the opening game. Pitt-Bradford cut into the lead in game two, winning 195-151, but Roberts Wesleyan won two of the last three games by over 40 pins to secure the win. Against Medaille, Pitt-Bradford jumped out to a 186-173 lead in game one but lost the final four games to the Mavericks.

To close the event, the Panthers had a rematch with Penn State-Behrend where they were able to hold off a late charge to pick up an 801-798 victory over the Lions. The Panthers built a 21 pin lead after two games, winning the first 189-182 and the second 175-161. They struggled in game three, posting a low score of 108, allowing Penn-State Behrend to take a lead. The Panthers righted the ship in game 4, winning 181-149 to head into the final game with a 25 point lead. In the final game, they held off a late Lion charge to win the match. They fell 170-148 in the final game but held on for the three-pin victory.

The Panthers finish the event in 7th place with a 3-7 record in the tournament. The Panthers will have a two-week respite before hosting Medaille for a dual match on March 19th at 12:00 p.m. in Billye Lanes.
