Panthers Go 1 and 4 on Day 1 at Daemen College Classic

Amherst, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team got off to a tough start at the Daemen College Classic on Saturday, winning 1 out of 5 on the first day of competition at the tournament.

The Panthers started strong as they posted an opening 850, but saw their opponents, Medaille, score 1061 to win the first match. Brookelyn Garvey led the way in the match with a score of 187 and was aided by Jordyn Graham and Meghan Schwab, who posted scared on 179 and 170. 

Pitt-Bradford battled back in game two, winning a match with Walsh 830-770. Sarah Newland had the high game for the Panthers with a 198 and Schwab was just behind her at 170.

The Panthers bowled their best game in the third match of the day but unfortunately fell to D'Youville 877-858. Garvey once again led the Panthers, while Ekaterina Wilson had her best game of the day with a score of 180. Schwab also had her best game of the day with a 175.

The Panthers struggled to maintain their rhythm in the fourth match of the day, posting an uncharacteristically low score in a 715-840 loss to the hosts, Daemen. Schwab maintained her consistency for the day, posting a game-high score of 172 for the Panthers.

Finally, the Panthers closed the day with an 820-894 loss in a rematch with D'Youville. Brookelyn Garvey returned to form, bowling a 219 in the loss. Sarah Newland was second for the Panthers with a score of 164, while Meghan Schwab was just behind her at 162.

On The day, Garvey finished the day with the best pinfall, posting an average of 178.60 pins per game. Meghan Schwab finished the day in the top 20 with an average score of 169.80 pins over five matches. Jordyn Graham was the third Panther to bowl in all 5 matches, averaging 159.20 pins per match. Sarah Newland and Ekaterina Wilson each competed in four matches, averaging scores of 167.0 and 155.75 respectively. Finally, Olivia Shultz bowled in two of the matches for Pitt-Bradford, averaging 122.0 pins per game.

The Panthers will be back in action on Sunday as they compete on the second day of competition in Amherst. They will bowl 5 more games in the Baker format.
