Panthers Finish 6th at Brunswick Invitational, Garvey Makes All-Tournament Team

Kenmore, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team hit the lanes in Kenmore, N.Y. this weekend, taking 6th place after going 2-7 at the Brunswick Invitational, hosted by Medaille. Brookelyn Garvey was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 195.80 pins per game.

The Panthers started their weekend with a 2-2 record in four traditional matches on Saturday. 

Pitt-Bradford got off to a slow start as they lost their first match of the event 846-779 against Mercyhurst. Jordyn Graham led the Panthers by posting a score of 175, while Brookelyn Garvey finished with a 168 and Sarah Newland was just behind her at 163.

The Panthers improved drastically in the second match of the day but were outscored by D'Youville 882-863. Garvey rolled the highest single-game score of the day for the Panthers, finishing with a 235. Jordyn Graham also had a strong game, finishing with a 194.

Pitt-Bradford was able to get into the win column in their third matchup of the day, defeating Penn State-Behrend 871-813. Sarah Newland was the Panthers' leader in the match as she finished with a 213. Olivia Shultz stepped up and rolled her best match of the season, finishing with a 181. Garvey was a pin behind her at 180.

The Panthers closed the day by posting their best pinfall of the day, defeating Penn State-Behrend once again 902-799. All 5 Panthers finished with scores higher than 165. Newland had the high score with 194 pins, while Ekaterina Wilson had her best match, finishing with a 167.

The event moved to the Baker Format on day two with the winning team decided by a 5 game total pinfall. Unfortunately, the Panthers were unable to keep up with their opponents throughout the day as they lost all 5 matches they bowled in. 

The day started with a 950-853 loss to Medaille. The Panthers lost 4 of the 5 single games in the match but were able to post their highest score of the day in Game 2, winning 236-185. The Panthers were able to win one game in each of the 4 following matches but found themselves overmatched by their opponents. They lost the matches 897-748 to Daemen, 864-787 to Roberts Wesleyan, 935-866 to Mercyhurst, and 894-824 to D'Youville.

The Panthers will be back in action one more time before Spring Break, as they will compete in the Daemen College Classic on March 5th.
