Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team kicked off their AMCC schedule at the first conference round robin. The Panthers recorded the third-highest pinfall of the event but were only able to come away with a 4-4 match record.
The Panthers began the competition with an 897-776 win over Penn State-Behrend. The Panthers won 4 out of 5 baker games bowled and posted two 201s. They were unable to maintain momentum as they moved into the second match of the day, as they fell to Medaille 797-885. The Panthers were only able to win one game in the match, defeating the Mavericks 175-156 in the second game.
Following a bye in the third match of the session, the Panthers got back in the win column with an impressive 991-902 victory over Saint Vincent. They not only finished the match with their highest 5 game pinfall of the season but also posted their highest baker game of the season, winning the 2nd game 256-191. Unfortunately, the Panthers once again were unable to repeat their performance in the next match, as they lost their final match of day one to LaRoche 807-820. The Panthers led for the majority of the match but saw the Redhawks post a 222 in the final game of the day to take the lead at the end.
Day two opened with a tough match-up against Mount Aloysius. The Panthers got off to a slow start and were unable to recover as they lost the match 809-872. The Panthers followed up the loss with back-to-back wins in their next two matches. After losing the first game against Penn-State Altoona, the Panthers won 4 in a row against the Lions and then all 5 in their fourth match of the day against New Jersey City. They defeated Penn State-Altoona 814-665 and New Jersey City 828-687. In their eighth and final match of the event, the Panthers jumped ahead against Pitt-Greensburg, winning the first two games of the match, but fell in the final three. They lost the match 818-840 to the Bobcats after losing the fifth game of the match by 30 pins.
The Panthers finished the tournament with a total pinfall of 6,765 over 8 matches. Their 4-4 record after the round-robin puts them in a tie for 5th with LaRoche. The Panthers will be back in action after the holiday break when they host Daemen College for a dual match. The match will be at Byllye Lanes in Bradford on December 4, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
