Bowling Takes Third at Unicorn Invitational, Win 3 of 5

Pittsburgh, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team won 3 of 5 matches at the Unicorn Invitational, hosted by LaRoche University, on Saturday.

The Panthers beat LaRoche, Penn State-Altoona, and Penn State-Behrend on their way to posting the 3rd best pinfall at the event. The event was bowled in the Baker Bowling format.

Pitt-Bradford started off their day with a tough loss to Saint Vincent 735-814. They fell behind the Bearcats early, and despite winning the 4th game of the match 167-158, were unable to overcome the early deficit.

The Panthers got right back to it in the second match, as they surged late to dispatch the hosts. The Panthers lost the first game 125-130 but battled back to tie the match with a 171-128 win in the second. After dropping the third, the Panthers turned it on, winning the final two games handily to win the match. The final pinfall in the match was 811-774 to the Panthers.

The Panthers won their second straight match of the day by defeating Penn State-Altoona. The Panthers posted a pinfall of 923 in the match, their highest of the day. They lost the first two games in close fashion, but then bowled three of their best games to close the match. They won game 3 209-110, game 4 180-142, and closed strong with a 239-145 win in game 5.

The Panthers saw their streak come to a close in the fourth match of the day, as they were unable to overcome an early deficit to win the match. The Panthers were able to win three games late, but a 221-138 loss in the second game of the match proved to be too large to overcome.

Pitt-Bradford closed their day with a 730-689 win over Penn State-Behrend. The Panthers came through in the clutch winning the 5th game of the match 191-144 to secure the 41 point victory.

The Panthers have gotten off to a good start to the season, winning 9 of 17 matches. They will begin their conference competition next Saturday, as they head to Latrobe for the first AMCC Round Robin of the season. The action is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. start.
