Panthers Run Out of Steam, Finish 8th at Medaille Invitational

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team finished the Medaille Invitation with a 1-4 record on day two, as they struggled late, dropping to an 8th place finish in the event.

The Panthers got off to a good start on the day, but fell just short of opponents Roberts Wesleyan, losing the match 916-890. Jordyn Graham had the Panthers' highest score of the day in the match, posting a 200. Brookelyn Garvey finished just behind her with a 194.

Game two of the day saw the Panthers struggle and fall to Division II opponent Mercyhurst 912-772. Each panther saw their scores drop from game one, and Meghan Schwab posted the highest pinfall of the match for the Panthers. She rolled a 169, twelve pins more than the next closest, Ekaterina Wilson.

Pitt-Bradford battled back in their final round-robin match of the event, as they won a nailbiting rematch with Mercyhurst. The Panthers edged the Lakers by 1 pin, winning the match 800-799. Sarah Newland had the highest score of the match for the Panthers with a 170. Three teammates finished within 10 pins of Newland as Garvey bowled a 168, Wilson a 163, and Schwab a 160.

As the invitational moved into the placement rounds, the Panthers first took on Walsh. Pitt-Bradford bowled a strong score, finishing with an 819, but saw their opponents bowl a 903 to win the match. Garvey had the best score for the Panthers, bowling a 186.

After bowling 9 matches in 2 days, the Panthers seemed to run out of steam in the final match of the tournament. They bowled against Penn State-Behrend and had their lowest pinfall of the season, losing 718-662. Graham had the high total of the match for the Panthers with a 160.

The Panthers finish the event with a 4-6 record and took 8th place. Overall they have won 7 matches and lost 6. They return to action next weekend in Pittsburgh, as they will bowl in the Unicorn Invitational, hosted by La Roche.
