Panther Bowlers Win 3, Lose 2 on Day One of Medaille Invitational

Kenmore, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team bowled in 5 matches in the first day of the Medaille Invitational on Saturday, winning 3 and losing 2.

The Panthers started off their day with a n 868-817 victory over Division II D'Youille. Jordyn Graham posted her best score of the day in the match, bowling a 213. Sara Newland had a strong match, finishing with a 183, while Megan Schwab was just six pins behind her at 177.

The second match of the day saw the Panthers post a strong score of 825, but could not keep up with Daemen, who posted a 1,022. Brookelyn Garvey led the Panthers with a 211 in this match and Ekaterina Wilson had a season-high 164.

Match number three saw the Panthers get back in the win column with an 833-808 win over Walsh. Garvey recorded the Panthers' highest traditional score of the season with a 226. Graham finished the game with a 193.

The Panthers were unable to maintain the momentum in match four, as they fell to the hosts, Medaille 961-854. Meghan Schwab became the third different Panther to lead the team in a match, as she bowled a 205. Garvey and Graham also had strong matches with Brookelyn rolling a 194 and Jordyn just 4 pins behind at 190.

The Panthers struggled in their final match of the day, posting their lowest score of the tournament, but were able to hold off Penn State-Behrend in a 751-715 victory. Garvey once again had the high pinfall for the Panthers in the match with a 179.

Overall, Brookelyn Garvey had the highest average for the Panthers in the five matches, finishing with 191 pins per match. Jordyn Graham had an average of 181.4 and Meghan Schwab posted 172.8 pins per match. Sarah Newland was the 4th Panther to bowl in all 5 matches on the day. She averaged 148.2 pins per match. Ekaterina Wilson participated in 4 matches with an average pinfall of 139.5 and Rebecca Henry bowled in one match and posted a 106.

The Panthers will be back in action for day two of the tournament tomorrow. They will start their day with a match against Roberts Wesleyan, and will then take on Mercyhurst in back-to-back matches to close out the round-robin portion of the tournament. They will then conclude with two placement matches. Action will begin at 9:00 a.m.
