BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling wrapped up the opening round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship at Sims Lanes Friday evening.
No. 4 seeded Pitt-Bradford fell to No. 1 Medaille 2-0, the Mavericks coming out on top in the team format 784-754 and in baker three-games-to-two.
"We were in every game," Head Coach Gregg Hoover said. "We just need to make a couple more spares. The girls are getting more confident every game. Looking forward to tomorrow's matches."
Pitt-Bradford will now take on No. 3 Saint Vincent in the double-elimination mega match formatted tournament after the Bearcats narrowly fell to No. 2 Mount Aloysius.
The winner of Saturday morning's action will advance to play the loser of Medaille vs. Mount Aloysius, while the loser will be eliminated.
Kelsey Hammons led the squad with a score of 190 in the team format.
With a score of 122, Bryce Holm rounded out the Panther performers.
In baker, Medaille took the first two games 168-143 and 149-103.
But Pitt-Bradford stayed alive with a 197-172 win in game three.
Medaille took its third and winning game in the fourth with a 151-112 victory.
Pitt-Bradford won game five 134-126 to push the score to 3-2 in favor of Medaille.
The championship match will take place Sunday and the AMCC champion will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Saturday's action is set for a 10 a.m. start.
