Panthers Battle Lions Early, Eliminated from Postseason Contention After Loss

Bradford, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford played its final home game of the season on Wednesday, taking on Penn State-Behrend. The Panthers started out hot and led the Lions early, but ultimately fell 94-64. The loss eliminates Pitt-Bradford from postseason contention.

Dalyala Alexander got the game off to a lightning start as she picked up a loose ball after the tip and raced to the basket for a layup. Raquel Sewell answered a Penn State-Behrend basket with another layup, and then extended the lead to 4 with a putback. Pitt-Bradford extended its lead to 7 when Alexander converted a three-point play, but the visitors rallied with a 16-2 run to move into the lead. Alexander and Sewell made short jumpers late in the first, but it was not enough to keep up with the Lions, who led 28-19 after 10 minutes.

The visitors continued their rally as the game moved into the second quarter, beginning the period with a three from the wing. Amber Murak and Alexnder kept the lead from growing further with a short jumper and two free throws. After the deficit was expanded to 16 points, Alexander and Murak made back-to-back field goals to cut it back to 12. Murak made one final layup on a break, but the Lions scored in the final seconds of the half to send the game to the break with Pitt-Bradford trailing 52-38.

After halftime, the visitors began to pull away from the Panthers, scoring seven unanswered before Murak got the Panthers back on the board. She added a three-pointer a minute later, but it was quickly matched by the visitors. Following a pair of short Penn State-Behrend baskets, Alexander scored four straight points around a Panther timeout. Sewell added a putback layup in the final minute; however, it was matched by the visitors, who scored in the final seconds of the quarter once again.

Ella Gettings started the final quarter with a second-chance layup, but her effort was quickly followed by a four-point Lion possession. Alexander scored five straight for the Panthers, and then, after a timeout, Sewell made another putback layup with 6 minutes remaining in the game. Following another Gettings jumper, the Lions went on a 13-0 run. With just under a minute left, Murak made one final midrange jumper to put the final deficit at 30 points.

Dalayla Alexander led Pitt-Bradford with a season-high 23 points. She made 8-20 from the field, and all 5 free throws she attempted. Senior Raquel Sewell had one of the best nights of her career in her final home outing.  She finished with 14 points, one off her career high, while also grabbing 18 rebounds. It was her 2nd double-double of the season. Amber Murak added 17 points on 8-17 shooting, while Ella Gettings finished with 8 points and 10 rebounds.

The Panthers drop to 0-22 on the season, and 0-14 in AMCC play. They will have the weekend off before playing their penultimate game of the year next Wednesday at Hilbert. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
