Panthers Cannot Handle First Half Pressure, Lose to Lions 102-53

Altoona, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team hit the road on Monday for another AMCC contest. The Panthers took on Penn State-Altoona and lost to the Lions 102-53.

The hosts got off to a quick start, scoring on their first five possessions, while keeping the Panthers off the board. They pushed their lead to 14 before Dalayla Alexander made a midrange jumpshot to get Pitt-Bradford started. After the Penn State-Altoona lead grew to 20, Alexander made a three-pointer in transition, and then, following a defensive stop, Molly Cady made a shot from the corner. Ella Gettings added a pair of buckets inside, but the quarter ended with Pitt-Bradford trailing 36-11.

The Panthers struggled to keep their rhythm offensively to begin the second quarter, and the Lions took advantage, tacking 8 points onto their lead before Amber Murak made a short jump shot. The hosts scored the next 17 of the next 19 points before Murak made a three on a feed from Dalayla Alexander. Alexander added another long ball late in the period, but the Panthers finished the half behind 72-21.

The Lions had another quick start to begin the third, once again going on an unanswered scoring run. They scored the first eight points of the half before Gettings made a three-pointer. Murak took over for the Panthers after the Gettings trey, scoring the next 9 points for Pitt-Bradford, which cut 5 points off the Penn State-Altoona lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Lions scored the first six points of the period and then called a timeout after a Murak three. She hit another long ball after a Gettings jumper and then added a layup a minute later. Raquel Sewell converted a three-point play after an offensive rebound in the final minute, and Alexander finished the game with a layup to put the final score at 102-53 in favor of the Lions.

Amber Murak led all scorers with 26 points. She made 9-19 from the field, including 4-9 from beyond the arc. She also tallied 6 rebounds. Dalayla Alexander added 13 points, while Ella Gettings finished with 9 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Panthers fall to 0-19 on the year with a 0-11 record in conference play. They will be back on the road this Wednesday as they travel to Alfred State.
