Panthers Dropped by Lions on the Road

Erie, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team traveled to Erie to take on Penn State-Behrend in AMCC play. The Panthers struggled to score early and ultimately fell to the Lions 114-39.

The Panthers kept the Lions off the scoreboard for the first two minutes of the game, but were unable to take advantage and score themselves. The hosts built a 6-0 lead before Ella Gettings made a midrange jumpshot to get the Panthers started. The Lions scored the next 7 points to extend their lead to 14 before Amber Murak drew a foul and sank two free throws. Pitt-Bradford struggled for the remainder of the quarter and was shut out as Penn State-Behrend built a 31-4 lead after ten minutes.

The Lions had scored the first three points of the 2nd when Murak broke the drought with a jump shot and a pair of free throws. The hosts added to the lead, but the Panthers found some rhythm late in the half. Murak made a three, and Dalayla Alexander added a layup on the next possession, sending the game to halftime with the Panthers trailing 59-16.

Murak opened the 2nd half with a driving layup, but her basket was followed by 12 points. Following a timeout, Molly Cady made a jump shot, and then a few possessions later, Zennette Zigler added another. Murak tacked on 5 more points in the last 3 minutes of the quarter, while Cady sank another jumper.

The Panthers struggled to score in the final quarter and were held off the board for the first 3 minutes and 40 seconds. Murak made another layup to end the drought and then answered two Lion free throws with another field goal on the next possession. Ella Gettings made another layup and two free throws in the final minutes, while Makartnee Mortimer added a pair from the stripe.

Amber Murak led Pitt-Bradford with 20 points. Ella Gettings added 8 points, while also grabbing 10 rebounds.

The Panthers drop to 0-15 on the year with a 0-7 mark in conference play. They will be back in action at home on Saturday, when they take on Mount Aloysius. Tipoff for the game has been moved up due to impending inclement weather and is now scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in KOA Arena.
