Cresson, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team hit the road on Wednesday, taking on Mount Aloysius. The Panthers battled in the first half, winning the 2nd quarter to trail by 10 at the break, but could not maintain the pace in the second half, ultimately falling 71-44.
Dalayla Alexander started the scoring in the contest with a free throw, but the hosts quickly jumped in front with 5 straight. An Alexander three slowed the run, but it the Mounties continued to add to their lead, scoring the next 13 points. Ella Gettings closed the quarter, making a layup on an Alexander assist to put the Panthers down 18-6 after one.
The Panthers began the second quarter with a defensive stop, and then Molly Cady cut into the lead with a layup. After a Mount Aloysius three-point play, Amber Murak hit two free throws, and Gettings added a layup to cut the deficit to single digits. Alexander kept the deficit at ten with a layup and a free throw and then began a 6-2 run to end the half. She made a layup and two free throws around a gettings basket to put the Panthers behind 31-21. Neither team scored over the final two minutes of the half.
Pitt-Bradford struggled to maintain its offensive rhythm after the break, and the hosts took advantage. The Mounties scored the first 2 points of the half to double their lead. Murak stopped the run after four minutes with a three-pointer. Alexander added two layups in the third quarter, while Stacy Sequeira and Raquel Sewell each made a pair of free throws, and Molly Cady added a layup. Alexander's second basket ended the quarter with the Panthers trailing 56-34.
The Panthers started the fourth quarter with another long scoring drought, which allowed Mount Aloysius to tack 6 points onto their lead. Gettings and Sewell made back-to-back tip-ins before Murak scored two baskets in the final 90 seconds to finish the game 71-44.
Dalayla Alexander led all scorers with 15 points. She also grabbed 9 rebounds. Ella Gettings recorded her second straight double-double, finishing with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Amber Murak added 9 points.
The Panthers drop to 0-11 on the season, and 0-4 in AMCC play. They will have a conference bye this weekend, but will face a tough task on Monday, as they travel to John Carroll to take on the 11th-ranked team in the country. Tipoff is at 6:00 p.m.
