Bradford, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball returned to AMCC play on Monday, hosting LaRoche in a matchup that was postponed due to weather in December. The Panthers started slowly offensively and could never recover, falling 87-37.
The visitors started the scoring on the opening possession and then went on to score the first 10 points of the contest. Pitt-Bradford got on the board with 4:40 left in the quarter, when Zennette Zigler sank a midrange jumper off a feed from Molly Cady. The Redhawks pushed their lead to 4 before the Panthers made 4 consecutive free throws. In the final minute of the first, La Roche rolled off 8 unanswered points, ending the quarter with a 24-6 advantage.
Pitt-Bradford started the 2nd quarter off on the right foot, as they got a defensive stop on the opening possession and then Cady fed Ella Gettings for an open layup. La Roche answered with 8 in a row until Amber Murak made a short jump shot with 7 minutes left in the half. Murak added six more points in the quarter, while Raquel Sewell made a putback layup. La Roche once again scored in the final seconds, sending the game to halftime with the Panthers trailing 47-18.
The Panthers started the second half slowly, and La Roche took advantage, adding to their lead with a 12-0 run. Dalayla Alexander ended the run after 4 minutes with a pair of free throws. After La Roche scored 6 more unanswered, Gettings added a pair of free throws and a jumpshot for the Panthers. A late foul by the Panthers allowed the visitors to tack on a pair of free throws to end the quarter with the score 67-24.
Gettings started the final quarter with a putback layup, but her basket was followed by 9 straight La Roche points. Alexander ended the rally with a driving layup and then, a few minutes later, sank the Panthers' first three of the game. Gettings added a late layup before Murak converted a driving field goal to finish the game.
Ella Gettings recorded her 2nd double-double of the season, scoring 10 points while collecting a game-high 17 rebounds. She also had 3 steals and 2 assists. Amber Murak led the Panthers with 12 points.
The loss drops the Panthers to 0-10 overall, with a 0-3 mark in AMCC play. The Panthers will hit the road for their midweek matchup, as they head to Mount Aloysius for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff on Wednesday.
