Panthers Fall to Geneva in Home Debut

Bradford, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team hosted the Geneva Golden Tornados in their home opener on Wednesday evening. The Panthers struggled to keep up with Geneva's pressure and lost the game 108-27.

The Panthers fell behind from the jump as they were held off the board for the first 4 minutes of play while Geneva built a 13-point lead. Amber Murak was able to start the scoring for the Panthers at the 5:27 mark, as she drove to the basket and converted a layup. Geneva scored the next 7 points of the game until Ella Gettings converted a short jumper on a pass from Dalayla Alexander. Pitt-Bradford continued to struggle with the trapping Geneva defense, and only scored 1 more point in the quarter while the Golden Tornados took a 28-5 lead into the 2nd.

Murak made a jumper on the Panthers' first possession of the quarter, but it was bookended by a pair of Geneva threes that saw the visitors quickly add to their lead. The Golden Tornados continued to stop the Panther offense and outscored them 22-2 after the Murak basket, with the two Pitt-Bradford points coming from free throws by Gettings and Alexander.

Geneva started the second half with 9 straight points until Alexander found Joy McBean for a short jumper in the key. A few possessions later, Alexander hit the Panthers' first three of the game with a shot from the left wing. Murak added a hook shot and a free throw late in the quarter, while Geneva continued to add to their lead, taking an 81-18 edge into the final period.

In the fourth, the Panthers hit four field goals, as Gettings made a pair of layups and Murak and Alexander each converted a driving layup. Geneva tacked on 27 more to their total to give the game a final score of 108-27.

Amber Murak led Pitt-Bradford with 10 points. Dalayla Alexander finished with 7 points and led the team with 3 assists. Ella Gettings added 7 points and led the team with 8 rebounds off the bench.

The Panthers fall to 0-3 with the loss. They will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 15th, with a home matchup against Penn College. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
