Bradford, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team saw a player recognized by the AMCC on Monday as centerfielder Miranda Groll was named the conference's Player of the Week.
Groll, a junior from Pittsburgh, PA, led the Panthers to a 5-1 week, including a pair of AMCC sweeps over Hilbert and Pitt-Greensburg. From the leadoff spot, she hit .556 with a home run, 11 runs scored, four RBI, and three stolen bases. She really made her mark in conference play, where she slashed .643/.706/1.143 with 10 runs scored, four extra base hits (including a home run), four RBI, and two stolen bases. She also made plays all over the outfield, totaling 23 putouts and two outfield assists.
This is Groll's first career AMCC Player of the Week award. It is the second time this season that a Panther has won the award, as Krislyn Clement also took home the honor on March 30.
Last weekend, Groll and the rest of the Panthers secured a spot in the AMCC Championship Tournament with their sweep of Pitt-Greensburg. They will finish off their regular season on Friday, as they will take on Alfred State to make up the second game of their doubleheader with the Pioneers that was postponed due to inclement weather earlier this month. A win in the contest will secure the 3rd seed in the upcoming tournament.
