Buffalo, NY -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team was back in the pool at the SUNYAC Swim Championships for the third day of competition. Conan Young took 2nd in the 400-yard IM, while 3 others qualified for finals and nearly doubled their point total heading into Day 4.
The Panthers had their best event of the meet on Friday as three Panthers qualified for finals in the 400-yard individual medley. Conan Young led the way, finishing on the podium for the second time in as many days with a runner-up finish. Young used a strong freestyle leg to close the gap with the eventual winner by nearly 6 seconds. His final time was 4:13.14.
Duncan Young and Peyton Haight also qualified and swam in the 2nd heat. Duncan Young won the second race, posting a time of 4:26.63, which was 3 seconds ahead of the field. Haight finished in 15th with a time of 4:54.99. Combined, the three swimmers picked up 28 team points in the race.
The Panthers also had 3 swimmers compete in the 100-yard breaststroke, while only one was able to qualify for finals. Eric Reynolds finished 13th in the event with a time of 1:02.83. Evan Whitmore (1:13.94) and Greg Tyler (1:!4.58 finished 25th and 26th, respectively.
Luke Kerr swam in the preliminary round of the 100-yard backstroke. He finished 22nd in 1:40.55.
Pitt-Bradford closed the night with one team competing in the 400-yard medley relay. Duncan Young, Eric Reynolds, Conan Young, and Greg Tyler finished 7th with a time of 3:57.35. Duncan Young started the race with a 59.67-second backstroke leg, and Reynolds followed in the breaststroke, finishing his 100 in 1:02.95. Conan Young swam the Panthers' best split in the butterfly at 54.55 seconds, while Tyler finished the race with a 1:00.18 split in the freestyle.
The Panthers will have six swimmers compete in the preliminary round on Saturday, while Conan Young has already secured a spot in the 1650-yard freestyle final as the top qualifier. The Panthers will compete in the following events.
