Buffalo, NY -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team resumed competition at the SUNYAC Swimming Championships on Thursday, as they competed in 4 more individual events, as well as a relay. The team picked up 35 team points to bring their total to 85 and move them into 7th place.
Conan Young got the evening started for the Panthers, as he became the first Panther to earn a medal at the SUNYAC Championships, finishing 3rd in the 500-yard freestyle. Young had the 2nd best qualifying time in the Preliminary round, but finished 3rd in the final, just .30 seconds behind the runner-up. He posted a final time of 4:42.67 seconds.
Two other Panthers competed in the event, with one qualifying for finals. Duncan Young posted a preliminary round time of 4:57.08 to earn a spot in the finals. During the night session, he cut nearly two seconds off his time to finish in 12th place with a time of 4:55.60. Peyton Haight finished 23rd in the prelims, posting a time of 5:20.21.
Four other Panthers competed during the preliminary rounds in two different events, but failed to qualify for the finals. In the 200-yard individual medley, Eric Reynolds just missed out on a finals spot, finishing 17th with a time of 2:06.98. He finished 2 seconds behind the last qualifying time for finals.
Three other Panthers raced inthe 50-yard freestyle. Greg Tyler finished the sprint in 24.66 seconds, placing 30th, while Evan Whitmore was 39th in 27.47 seconds. Luke Kerr was 42nd with a time of 38.13 seconds.
The night came to a close with the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Panther team of Tyler, Haight, Whitmore, and Kerr finished 10th with a final time of 1:58.95, adding 14 team points for the Panthers.
The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow with 5 more men's swimming events on the docket. The following swimmers will compete in preliminary rounds.
