Panthers Finish 7th at SUNYAC Championship Meet, Conan Young Earns 3rd Medal

Buffalo, NY -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team returned to the pool for the final day of competition at the SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships. Conan Young won 3rd place in the 1650-yard freestyle, as the Panthers tallied 198 team points, earning them a 7th place finish.  

The Panthers started their final leg of the meet with two swimmers competing in the 1650-yard freestyle. Conan Young acquired his fourth and final podium finish for the Panthers. Young kept up with the first-place finishing swimmer but fell behind after losing his cap mid flip-turn. His final time was 16:32.61.

Peyton Haight also qualified for the mile-long race. He finished 7th in his heat and 15th overall with a time of 18:34.61. Haight and Young combined to earn 18 points for the Panthers in this event alone.

Duncan Young qualified for the finals in the 200-yard backstroke. Young finished 11th in 2:05.18, earning 6 points for the Panthers in the event.

Eric Reynolds qualified for the 2nd heat of the 200-yard breaststroke. Reynolds won in his heat and placed 9th overall, finishing with a time of 2:17.86. Reynolds earned the Panthers 9 points in the event.

Three Panthers competed in the preliminary round of the 100-yard freestyle, but none were able to qualify for finals. Greg Tyler finished 30th with a time of 57.05, while Evan Whitmore and Luke Kerr finished 33rd and 34th, respectively. Whitmore posted a time of 1:08.58, and Kerr finished in 1:24.57.

The Panthers ended the final night of Championships in the 400-yard freestyle relay with one team, consisting of Conan Young, Duncan Young, Eric Reynolds, and Greg Tyler. They finished in 7th place with a time of 3:32.00. Conan Young started the race with a 50.24-second leg. Duncan Young followed, swimming the teams fasted split in 50.03. Reynolds then finished his leg in 54.08, and Tyler closed the race for the Panthers with a split of 57.65

The Panthes finish the event in 7th with 198 team points in their debut appearance in the SUNYAC Championship meet.
