Bradford, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrapped up a three-game homestand on Wednesday, hosting Penn State-Altoona in an AMCC matchup. The Panthers shot 52% from the field and 43% from three as they defeated the Lions 104-78.
The Panthers sprinted out to an early lead, scoring the first seven points of the game. Coby Farley opened the game with a three-pointer and then added a pair of free throws after a Xavion Boone layup. After the Lions got on the board, Kaleb Pryor made a three-pointer from the wing, prompting a timeout. Clarence Cobbins and Xander Norris answered a pair of Penn State-Altoona layups with a layup and a three to extend the lead to 9 after 7 minutes of play.
After the visitors matched a Tra Edwards long ball, Jeremy Rodriguez scored four quick points on a pair of fast break layups to put the Panthers up 24-13. Pitt-Bradford maintained the double-digit lead for the next two minutes before doubling it with a 12-0 run. Niare Poplar started the rally with a short jumper before Maki Hill, and Rodriguez hit back-to-back threes. Hill closed the rally with back-to-back buckets, giving Pitt-Bradford a 42-20 lead. The Lions cut into the advantage with a 4-0 run, but Rodriguez scored 7 points in the last 70 seconds to send the game to the break with the Panthers ahead 50-28.
Tommy Walton started the second half with a pair of turnaround jump shots, and Edwards added a layup to extend the advantage to 24. After the first two minutes, the visitors moved into a high-pressure defense and quickly went on an 11-0 run. Cobbins ended the run for the Panthers, scoring six straight points on two layups and a pair of free throws. The Panthers slowed the Lions' comeback attempts, as Hill and Boone each made baskets late in the shot clock to keep Pitt-Bradford ahead.
A Rodriguez three put the lead back to 19 points, and began another scoring run for the Panthers. Edwards added a three in the rally, while Poplar ended it with a short hook shot, giving Pitt-Bradford a 79-52 lead. With five minutes remaining, Cobbins and Farley made layups around a powerful slam dunk by Poplar, extending the lead to 31. The Panthers began to slow down their offense, but continued adding to their total on threes by Cobbins and Tieron Vick. In the final minute, the visitors scored 8 unanswered points to put the final score at 104-78.
Jeremy Rodriguez led all scorers with 20 points. He made 8-12 from the field, including 4-6 from beyond the arc. Clarence Cobbins had a perfect shooting day to finish with a season-high 16 points. He was 6-6 from the field, including 1-1 from three, and made all three free throws he attempted. Coby Farley added 13 points, while Maki Hill finished with 12. Farley led the Panthers with 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.
