Huntingdon, Pa -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford clays target team competed in its final events of the year over the weekend, taking first place in the Mount Aloysius Invitational and the inaugural PA Clay Cup.
In both events, the Panthers competed against shooters from Mount Aloysius and Juniata.
The weekend began with the Mount Aloysius Invitational, hosted at the Generations Sportsman's Club in Patton, Pa. The event featured two formats, 50 shots per athlete in both the skeet and trap disciplines.
The Panthers were victorious with a combined score of 457. Andrew Magee led the Panthers with a score of 94, while Orin Pontious was a shot behind him at 93. Nathan Wilczak and Levi Merrill each shot 91s, while Ben McCrory posted an 88. Andrew Magee was the top shooter in the skeet discipline, posting a perfect 50-shot round. Orin Pontious was the high scorer in trap, posting a 49. Khloe Carpenter was the top female in the trap competition at 48.
The next day, the Panthers stayed in the area and competed in the Inaugural PA Clay Cup at Shenecoy Sportsman's Club in Huntingdon, PA. Competing in skeet, trap, and sporting clays, the Panthers once again finished 1st, posting a team score of 665. Merrill was the top Panther at 145, while McCrory posted a score of 148. Pontious shot a combined 131, while Magee and Wilczak posted scores of 126 and 125, respectively. On the women's side, Carpenter was the top performer, posting a high score of 118.
The Panthers came away with the top two male performances in both skeet and trap. Levi Merril led both disciplines, posting identical rounds of 49/50. Pontious followed him in skeet at 47, while McCrory was 2nd in trap also at 47. He also held the top score in Sporting Clays, posting a 49. Carpenter was the top female shooter in sporting clays at 42/50.
"This was an incredible way to close out our inaugural season," said head coach Jeff Cattoni. " Im proud of every athlete and extremely excited for what's ahead for them and this program."
