Mannering Signs with Milkmen, Strikes Out Three in Debut

Sioux City, IA – University of Pittsburgh at Bradford alum Shawn Mannering has signed a professional contract with the Milwaukee Milkmen of the American Association of Professional Baseball. He made his debut with the Milkmen on Wednesday night, allowing 1 run in 2.0 innings pitched with three strikeouts.

“Signing a professional contract and having my first pro outing was a blessing for me,” said Mannering after his first contest with the Milkmen.

He started his outing with a clean first frame, retiring the side with one strikeout. In his second inning of work, Mannering allowed a single and a double to start the frame but settled in and limited his opponents to one run. He struck out the last two batters he faced.

“The whole Pitt-Bradford community is extremely proud of Shawn,” said head baseball coach Zach Foster. “Shawn has continued to work and stay resilient until this opportunity in Milwaukee became available. I’m sure he will make the best of this opportunity and ultimately open doors to his ultimate goal of getting into affiliated baseball.”

Mannering pitched 4 seasons for the Panthers, tallying 11 wins and 4 saves in his career. He pitched 172.2 innings, striking out 186 batters and posted a 5.26 ERA. Mannering was a two-time All-AMCC honoree, making the 1st team as a junior and 2nd team last season.

“I thank Pitt-Bradford for giving me the opportunity and a home to grow and develop, not just as a baseball player, but as a person,” said Mannering. “I learned a lot of things that help me in my preparation and performance every day. Pitt-Bradford will always be a second home to me.”

Mannering is the third former Panther to sign with a team in the AAPB. 2020 Alum Ryan Boyer pitched for the Milkmen in 2021 and 2013 grad Derek Smith played 2 seasons with the Gary SouthShore Railcats from 2014-15.
