BRADFORD, Pa. -- Senior guard Ali Rinfrette of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team has been named the HEROSports.com D3 Women's Basketball HERO of the Week, officials announced Friday.
The weekly national award is determined by a fan vote. The Bradford native received 2,411 votes, 46.78 percent of all 5,154 total votes.
Playing in her hometown, Rinfrette saw an outpouring of support in the local area, highlighted by the active voting and sharing by the more than 6,600 members of the "I Grew Up In Bradford PA" group on Facebook. Seeing the activity in the group, the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce and many individuals also shared the link and asked fans and friends to vote.
HEROSports.com named Rinfrette a finalist for the award on Monday for her performance in the Jan. 31, win over D'Youville in which she had 25 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, four steals, two blocks and two three-pointers with one turnover while playing all 40 minutes.
For her performance last week, the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference named Rinfrette the Player of the Week, as she averaged 27 points and 12.5 rebounds while playing all 80 total minutes in the team's two games.
Already Pitt-Bradford women's basketball's All-Time leading scorer, the senior enters Saturday with 1,974 career points – 26 points away from becoming the first 2,000-point scorer in program history.
On the season, Rinfrette leads the conference in scoring with 21.9 points per game, which also ranks 10th nationally.
She also stays on the court the second-most in the country at 38.95 minutes per game, and her 4.5 assists per game is second-best in the conference.
Prior to the 3 p.m. tipoff against Penn State-Behrend at the KOA Arena Saturday, Rinfrette will be honored for Senior Day as the Panthers' lone graduating senior.
Pitt-Bradford will be home Wednesday, Feb. 14, for its regular-season home finale.
