BRADFORD, Pa. – Freshman Benjamin Koss of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swim team has been named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
"Ben had a really solid weekend for us and is very deserving of this award," Head Coach Doug Alban said. "He is talented in a lot of events and this makes it a bit tougher to choose what he will swim at conferences. He is following in the footsteps of his brother, Corey, who just competed in the final home dual meet of his career. We have a great young core to move this team forward in the next couple of years, and Ben is a big part of that."
For Koss, this is the second time this season he has been named the conference's Men's Swimmer of the Week, as he was honored on Oct. 23 for the first time.
The Kersey, Pa., native was crucial to the Panthers' success during a busy weekend competing at Alfred State Friday and hosting Wells College and Penn State-Behrend for a tri-meet Saturday.
On Friday, he earned a pair of individual victories, the first coming in the 200-IM at 2:06.68 and the second in the 100-freestyle at 48.76 to help the Panthers to a road win at Alfred State.
Koss then started Saturday's tri-meet with a bang as he was part of the 400-medley relay team that finished first and broke the pool record at the Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center with a time of 3:40.97.
He then went on to earn the team's first individual win of the day in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:48.45.
The Panthers will head to Baldwin Wallace this Saturday for their final regular-season competition of the season before the 2018 AMCC Championships at Penn State-Behrend from Feb. 14-17.
