Cresson, Pa. -- In their first post season appearance since 2011, the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team fell to the #3 seeded Mount Aloysius Mounties by a score of 4 to 1.
The Panthers struggled to keep possession of the ball throughout the entire game, as they were outshot 25 to 4 by the Mounties. In the first half, they were outshot 13-2 and found themselves down a goal after 14 minutes. Spencer Sklar was able to get the two bradford shots off, with one being blocked and the other going over the goal. The deficit grew to two when the Mounties were able to score a second just over 3 and a half minutes before the break.
Pitt-Bradford was able to get back into the game after the restart. In the 52nd minute, Ugwunna Amadi gained control of a pass on the right flank. He found Scott Compson to his left and continued his run down field. Compson played a throughall behind the defense to a streaking Amadi. Amadi pulled back a pass and found Spencer Sklar who finished pass the goalkeeper with a one time shot. The goal was Sklar's 8th of the season.
The Panthers look to tie up the game minutes later as Thomas Kelly worked himself free and fired a shot that was parried away for a corner. That would be the last chance the Panthers would muster, as the Mounties regained control shortly after. They restored their two goal lead in the 72nd minute, and pushed the lead to 3 goals in the 87th to close out the game.
Sklar took three of the 4 Pitt-Bradford shots, while Kelly took the other. Sihle Sizani made 10 saves in the Panther net in the loss.
The Panthers finish their season with a 9-9 record and a return to the AMCC Playoffs. They will look to build on the momentum gained this year, as they look to return all but four of their goals this season. In their final season in Bradford, the graduating class doubled their win total in their senior year, helping to build a solid foundation for the program moving forward.
