WARREN, Ohio -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's golf team completed day one of the two-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships Sunday at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club.
The Panthers are tied for second out of the nine total AMCC squads with Pitt-Greensburg, shooting 320 as a team. The two squads are a pair of strokes back from the leader, Penn State-Altoona, at 318.
"The guys were disappointed in their play, as we did not play our best," Head Coach Keith Stauffer said. "But, we are right in it. If we play like we're capable tomorrow, we should have a chance at the conference championship."
Behind the top three, La Roche holds fourth place, four strokes behind Pitt-Bradford and Pitt-Greensburg at 324.
Johnny Fiore put together one of the best rounds in the conference Sunday, tying for the individual lead with a score of 74.
"Kudos to Johnny, as he led our team again," Stauffer added. "He's really playing well right now. The others need to feed off of him and play like they're capable tomorrow. I am confident they will."
Cooper Cordova shot the next lowest score for the Panthers, tying for seventh overall at 78.
The 2018 AMCC champion will be crowned after tomorrow's action, the winner owning the lowest combined scores from the two-day event.
