BRADFORD, Pa. - Pitt-Bradford baseball player Ryan Boyer was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Boyer went 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA in two starts last week, helping the Panthers advance to the AMCC tournament semifinals.
The Bradford native tossed eight scoreless innings in the team's first-round series-clinching victory over Penn State Altoona. He surrendered seven hits, walked three, and struck out seven. It was his second straight start of eight scoreless frames.
The sophomore right-hander tied a career-high with nine strikeouts in a 9-7 elimination-game win against Mt. Aloysius. He went seven innings, allowing six runs, but kept the Mounties' high-scoring offense in check after yielding five runs in the fourth inning.
In his final three starts, all elimination games, Boyer went 3-0 with 2.35 ERA in 23 innings pitched. He finished tied for second in the AMCC with six total wins and third with 62 strikeouts. His 8.41 K/9 was second only to Penn State Behrend's Jack Herzing.
Boyer is the second straight Panther to win the weekly award. Justin Beimel took home the honor last week for his performance in game one of the team's first-round series against Penn State Altoona.
